Instagram Stories occupy the entire phone screen at a 9:16 aspect ratio. The official recommended size is 1080×1920. Anything off-ratio gets letterboxed or cropped by Instagram automatically.
ImageMint produces a precise 1080×1920 export with smart fit options, all in your browser. Use cover mode to fill the frame or contain mode if your composition has critical edges.

Tips
- Keep important content within the safe zone — the top and bottom 250 pixels are partially obscured by UI.
- 9:16 also works perfectly for TikTok, Reels, and YouTube Shorts.
- Use contain mode with a colored background if your source is landscape and you want to show the entire image.
FAQ
Why is my story cropping my photo?
Instagram crops anything that isn't 9:16. Pre-resizing to 1080×1920 is the only way to control the framing.
Can I use the same image for Reels?
Yes. Reels use the same 1080×1920 dimensions as Stories.
What about safe zones?
Avoid placing text in the top 250px (header) or bottom 250px (action bar).
