Instagram displays feed posts at a maximum of 1080 pixels wide on most devices. Uploading anything larger gets re-encoded by Instagram, often with worse compression than you'd apply yourself. Uploading anything smaller looks blurry on retina displays.

ImageMint resizes your photo to exactly 1080×1080 in your browser, with smart cropping to keep the subject centered. No upload, no loss of metadata you want to keep, no quality degradation from third-party servers.

How to Resize to 1080 × 1080

Save the resized JPEG and upload to Instagram. Quality stays as crisp as you set it.

Tips

  • Square is still the safest aspect ratio for Instagram — it never gets cropped in the feed.
  • Use cover mode (crop to fill) for landscape photos. Use contain (letterbox) for art or designs that mustn't be cropped.
  • Export as JPEG quality 85-90 to match Instagram's internal compression sweet spot.

FAQ

Why does Instagram blur my high-res uploads?

Instagram re-compresses everything you upload. Pre-resizing to 1080×1080 with controlled quality avoids the worst of their re-encoding.

Is 1080×1080 still the right size in 2026?

Yes for standard square posts. Reels and Stories use 1080×1920. Carousel posts also use 1080×1080 per slide.

Can I do portrait or landscape posts instead?

Yes. Portrait posts use 1080×1350 (4:5) and landscape use 1080×566 (1.91:1). Use the full Resize tool for those.
