20KB is one of the strictest size limits you'll encounter on the modern web. It's common for old government portals, low-bandwidth web apps, and tiny avatar slots. Reaching it manually means re-exporting at quality 30, 25, 20… until you happen to land in range.

ImageMint's Target Size tool runs a binary search across quality settings until the encoded size is at or just under 20KB. It works on JPEG, WebP, and AVIF, and the entire process happens locally in your browser using WebAssembly codecs.

How to Compress

  1. 1

    Upload Your Image

Drop any JPG, PNG, WebP, or AVIF file. Resolution and dimensions can stay the same or be downscaled automatically.

  2. 2

    Set Target to 20KB

Type 20 in the target field and pick your output format. JPEG is the safest for very small targets.

  3. 3

    Download the Result

Wait a few seconds while the binary search converges. Download your image and confirm it's at or below 20KB.

Tips

  • At 20KB, expect visible compression artifacts on photos. Use small dimensions (under 400px) to keep quality acceptable.
  • Avatars and icons survive 20KB much better than landscape photos because there's less detail to preserve.
  • If JPEG can't fit, try WebP — it usually achieves 20KB at noticeably better quality.

FAQ

Why won't my image fit in 20KB?

If the source is very high resolution, you may need to downscale dimensions first. The tool will warn you when 20KB is impossible at the current size.

Is 20KB enough for a profile photo?

Yes for thumbnails up to about 200x200. Beyond that, quality starts to suffer noticeably.

Does the original get uploaded anywhere?

No. All compression runs in your browser. Your image never leaves your device.
